Determination of the Herbicide Fluometuron by Photo‐induced Chemiluminescence in a Continuous‐flow Multicommutation Assembly
2007
Abstract This study was dealing with the chemiluminometric determination of the selective herbicide Fluometuron or 1,1‐dimethyl‐3‐(α,α,α‐trifluoro‐m‐tolyl)urea, (C10H11F3N2O) with a molecular weight 232.29 belongs to the phenyl urea herbicides family. The analytical strategy is based on the continuous‐flow manifold, multicommutation and the analyte pre‐treatment, the photo‐degradation. The optimization of chemical (pH, medium, temperature, and organized media) and hydrodynamic parameters (volume of reagents and flow rate) was performed by univariant and multiparametric simplex procedure respectively. Analytical figures of merit and the effect of foreign substances were studied. The method r…
Segmented Flow-Based Multistep Synthesis of Cadmium Selenide Quantum Dots with Narrow Particle Size Distribution
2015
A continuous-flow microreactor was used to synthetize II-VI semiconductor quantum dots (CdSe). In order to improve the size distribution of the nanoparticles, the synthesis was carried out in a two-step procedure. A seed solution was obtained in a separate nucleation step, followed by a controllable growth step. Quantum dots that are synthesized with the two-step method show a much narrower size distribution in comparison to those obtained in a conventional batch synthesis.
Continuous flow-injection-atomic absorption spectrometric method for the determination of Ondansetron
1995
Abstract A flow-injection procedure for the indirect determination of the new drug Ondansetron is proposed. The method is based on the reaction of the drug in an oxidative solid-phase reactor included in the flow assembly. The reactor was made by lead dioxide physically entrapped by polymerization; the released lead(II) was monitored by atomic absorption spectrometry at 217.0 nm. The procedure gave a linear calibration graph up to 20 μg ml−1 of Ondansetron with a sample throughput of 338 samples h−1.
Continuous-flow tristimulus colorimetry: a new approach for gradient scanning techniques
1991
Abstract A flow-injection gradient scanning technique for colour evaluation by means of tristimulus colorimetry is described. Equipment and data acquisition requirements are discussed. The program CHROMA.FIA data the treatment and comparative chromatic analysis is presented. The chemical and flow conditions were optimized. Comparative studies using metallochromic indicators with both the flow-injection and the conventional batch procedures were made. The continuous-flow procedure provides good results and is more than fifteen times faster than the manual titrimetric procedure.
ChemInform Abstract: Petasis Olefination in a Continuous-Flow Microwave Reactor: exo-Glycals from Sugar Lactones.
2011
The titled conversion into exo-glycals can be steered by adjusting the resindence time an the concentration of the reaction mixture.
Prediction of the chemiluminescent behaviour of phenols and polyphenols.
2002
Abstract A paper from this laboratory ‘J. Anal. Chem. 73 (2001) 4301’ was recently published and dealing with the first attempt to apply molecular connectivity calculations to predict a chemical property with analytical usefulness; namely, the chemiluminescent behaviour of substances when react with common strong oxidants in liquid phase. In the present work, the usefulness of molecular topology on the search for new chemiluminescent compounds is clearly demonstrated. The proposed discriminant equation, represented a success of 92.7% in the prediction. The present paper is the further step from the cited paper; it is dealing on the application of molecular connectivity calculations (former …
Study of aerobic granular sludge stability in a continuous-flow membrane bioreactor.
2015
A granular continuous-flow membrane bioreactor with a novel hydrodynamic configuration was developed to evaluate the stability of aerobic granular sludge (AGS). Under continuous-flow operation (Period I), AGS rapidly lost their structural integrity resulting in loose and fluffy microbial aggregates in which filamentous bacteria were dominant. The intermittent feeding (Period II) allowed obtaining the succession of feast and famine conditions that favored the increase in AGS stability. Although no further breakage occurred, the formation of new granules was very limited, owing to the absence of the hydraulic selection pressure. These results noted the necessity to ensure, on the one hand the…
Active mixing inside double emulsion segments in continuous flow
2015
Fast mixing is essential for many microfluidic applications, especially for flow at low Reynolds numbers. A capillary tube-in-tube coaxial flow setup in combination with a glass microreactor was used to produce immiscible multiphase segments. These double emulsion segments are composed of an organic solvent as the shell (outer) phase and a completely fluorinated liquid (Fluorinert® FC-40) as the core (inner) phase. Due to the higher density of the core droplets, they are responsive to changing their position to the force of gravity (g-force). By gently shaking or jiggling the reactor, the core drop flows very fast in the direction of the g-field without leaving the shell organic phase segme…
An E-Factor Minimized Protocol for a Sustainable and Efficient Heck Reaction in Flow
2014
A highly sustainable and waste-minimized protocol for Heck coupling has been defined. Optimal conditions have been defined by exploiting a heterogeneous catalyst based on supported ionic liquid-like phases featuring high Pd loading (10 wt %) and by optimizing its efficiency in a recoverable green reaction medium (acetonitrile/water azeotrope). Pure products 4a–l and 6a–h have been isolated chromatography-free in high yields (74–99%) and with extremely low environmental factor (E-factor) values (2.3–5.0). With the application of flow technology, the selected heterogeneous base and Pd catalyst have been fully recovered and reused, and minimum palladium leaching allowed for isolation of the fi…
